tumbling specific skills and fitness/body conditioning components.

Age Groups and Levels

There are 2 Pre school levels: (Pre Grade R) 4-5 yrs and (Grade R) 5-6 yrs

There are 6 School Age levels

There are 6 School Age levels (Yellow, Blue Red, Bronze, Silver and Gold). In school age you can be any age in a colour. But, you must start at yellow and work through each colour level without skipping a level!

Ongoing Evaluations and Invitations to Grading Ceremonies

Preschool

Tumblers have ongoing assessments in class.
Please note, we do not allow preschool
children to participate in grading ceremonies.

School Age

Tumblers will progress through continuous assessments from one level to the next (from one colour to the next) when they complete the curriculum colour level requirements during class.

Children move up to the next colour level (“level up”) when they have achieved all
of the previous colour’s outcomes, scoring an “M” for Mastered for each skill.

5 Components of the GWA Curriculum

The Progress Reports:

All children are given progress reports termly to assess their skill level. These show what you are working for during this term/session/quarter- your overall goals for the group.

They are also downloadable for distribution to parents as feedback and encouragement to return again and aim for improvement next term. Children’s movements are assessed as “Attempted”, “Learning” or “Mastered”.

The Lesson Plans:

These are your daily “go to” docs- where you will plan out exactly what you will be teaching for each colour level that day. They are repeated (so you do the same lesson plan for 2 lessons).

This allows you to finish uncompleted work from the previous week and to consolidate learning through repetition. The first 8 weeks of each term cover the movements/focus skills required to complete that term’s assessments, which are typically done in week 9 and 10.

So you can be sure, that if a child is being assessed for example on their cartwheel at the end of the term, there will be many times cartwheel work will be prescribed to be practiced in week 1-8’s lesson plans!

Lesson plans also come with warm-ups, recommended music, conditioning, flexibility, teaching and safety tips, cool downs, homework to give children and vital social skills to focus upon. It references where to find the movement inside the movement library.

The Movement Library:

This is where you will learn to teach every move that is inside the GWA curriculum. The library is categorised into various skill “families” to make it logical to find the videos that match what’s inside your lesson plan for that day. It is organised in level of difficulty- the easiest moves being listed first with the more advanced versions listed sequentially.

All videos are colour coded, so you can easily see what difficulty level that particular video is correlated to. You don’t want to be teaching a red level move to a yellow level child!

Lesson Plan Overviews:

These are your quick “hack” to the content you will be teaching on a particular day. A shortened version of the longer lesson plans. You can see the overview which gives an overview of the warm up, three circuits (tumbling, trampoline and conditioning/flexibility), and cool down activities.

Grading System:

In term 2 and term 4 we hold Grading ceremonies for school age children. If children have achieved “Mastered” for all the items on their Term 2 Progress report they are invited to the Term 2 grading. Likewise for term 4.

They showcase the colour level movements and receive a certificate of completion showing they have “passed” that level. They also receive a colour band, corresponding to the level they have just passed.

Grading

Children who are ready to level up may be invited to a grading ceremony as it adds to the excitement and creates an ability to showcase and perform for parents and spectators. It also adds focus to the lessons and is a great marketing event for your kids exercise business!

Grading ceremony movements are similar to class evaluations (progress reports), but there are less of them. We have 5 key grading skills per colour, level to accommodate a showcase set up.

(Please note: It is NOT compulsory for children to attend a Grading Ceremony in order to to level up, Children level up as soon as they have mastered all the movements in the colour level, and this is recorded in the progress reports.)

As children progress at different rates, it is difficult to predict how long they will take before achieving the outcomes for the colour levels. There are no set age groups per colour level. For example older children may start late and begin at yellow and younger kids may progress quickly through to gold.

Children may not skip levels. Each colour level has important milestones to reach before moving on – omitting a level might result in the foundations not being laid down correctly.
